Microbiology Research Associate

Job Description

We are seeking a Microbiology research associate to support and perform a variety of microbiology experiments. The successful candidate will have experience with microbiology laboratory techniques, be familiar with conducting routine microbial culturing and sample analysis and comfortable in a fast paced, multitasking environment.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare and fermentation media and other solutions
  • Apply aseptic techniques and perform microbial plating to isolate single colonies
  • Microbial culturing in tubes, shake-flask formats
  • Setup microbial cultures/assays using 24-well or 96-well or 384-well plate formats
  • Complete batch/experimental records and enter precise SOP details/variations and data into databases
  • Coordinate sample analysis among different experiments
  • Troubleshoot small equipment in the laboratory
  • Clean and autoclave process equipment and other instruments
  • Assist in laboratory supplies and equipment ordering
  • Perform other laboratory housekeeping tasks as assigned

Skills and requirements

  • BA/BS in biology, life sciences, or related scientific field; MS is preferred
  • 3+ years of biotechnology experience
  • Experience working with microbial cultures in an aseptic environment – culture scale up, transfer, and inoculation, use of multichannel pipettes and plate reader
  • Experience in working with anaerobic microbes and anaerobic gas chamber is highly desirable
  • Experience using liquid handling systems is a plus
  • Attention to detail and careful record keeping skills
  • Ability to multitask
  • Able to work independently
  • Strong computer skills
  • Familiarity with electronic notebook keeping software is desirable
